Redesign of Wegmans Point of Sale Screen
Project Type: Individual
My Role: UX Designer
Project Duration: 3 Months
Platform: Point of Sale (POS) Screen
Tools: Sketch, Axure, Photoshop
Project for: Wegmans Food Market
Wegmans is one of the largest private companies in the U.S. with over 46,000 employees. Each store has around 8-10 point of sale (POS) 91 stores. It is a regional supermarket chain with verifone screens which every customer interacts with to pay their expenses. Customers were spending lot of time on verifone screens for the payment. Point of Sale (POS) screens was not intuitive.
To make an interaction between the customers and Point of Sale (POS) screen as smooth as possible.
Find usability issues and their potential solutions
Gather comparative appeal quotient with the competitive stores screens, such as Wallmart and Walgreens
Evaluate what is working; what needs improvement; what are the missing features
Understand the expectations and needs of the Customer from that interaction
Analyze the complete user experience, from selecting the shoppers club card to swiping/inserting a card
Identify the cues that convey quality of the product and interactions
I made a HiFi prototype in Axure pro 8 with a complete workflow which is used by Wegmans for the demonstration to the management team.
It will also be used for the future reference.
See below one workflow of a user using his debit card for the payment.
It is already live in all the 92 stores.
Both the pictures below are from the Wegmans Store.
